Sweet pineapple, tangy plum and chia seeds make for a smoothie that will give you plenty of extended energy and tastes great any time of day. I call it the ‘Sweet Tang’ Chia Smoothie!
Chia seeds are not just for the ‘chia pet’ I remember growing up with. In fact, they are considered a ‘superfood’ and a great addition to a healthy lifestyle. These tiny seeds contain omega-3 oil and is a great source for vegans. Its protein is complete to raise your energy levels and they expand with liquids to keep you feeling fuller longer. There’s a lot of nutrition in a little package. A serving of chia seeds, 2 tablespoons, has 60 calories, 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of protein and 4 grams of healthy fat. They are a staple in my kitchen these days. I like to sprinkle them on salads, fruit dishes and cereal. And of course, they are a great added to smoothies like the one I have for you today. Pick up some chia seeds for yourself and sprinkle away. There are lots of great places to sneak these little seeds in!
‘SWEET TANG’ CHIA SMOOTHIE
- 4 large plums
- 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks
- 3/4 cup coconut water
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoon chia seeds
Wash and remove seeds from plums.
Place all ingredients in blender and blend to desired smoothness.
Makes one generous or two small servings.
