ingredients for raw chocolate banana ice cream.

Banana Ice Cream Ingredients

  • Bananas ā€“ Freeze the ripest bananas you can. They should be sweet enough so you wonā€™t need to use any sweetener.
  • Cocoa powder ā€“ Use your favorite, whether itā€™s raw cacao, regular cocoa, or Dutch chocolate. This batch was processed with Dutch cocoa, which makes it ultra dark and chocolatey, but typically, I like to use raw cacao powder.
  • Splash of non-dairy milk or water ā€“ This can be any type of plant-based milk or Vegan Cream, preferably unsweetened; this will help get the frozen mixture moving.

How To Make No Ice Maker Banana Ice Cream

  1. Simply place 2 ā€“ 3 frozen bananas in the bowl of your food processor or high-speed blender, along with 1 tablespoon of cacao powder, and blend until creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides every so often. Takes only 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Serve right away with sliced fruit, cacao nibs, nuts or seeds. Enjoy often!

Top Tips

  • Add protein. Try adding 2 ā€“ 4 tablespoons of nut butter, such as peanut, almond, cashew, or sunflower butter, for a boost of protein. It will also make it ultra-creamy!
  • Freeze some for later. Banana ice cream can be stored in a covered container and kept in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Optional toppings

  • sliced fruit
  • chopped nuts
  • cacao nibs or shredded coconut

Instructions

Break frozen bananas into small pieces. Place bananas, splash of liquid and cocoa/cacao into blender or food processor, blend until desired consistency scraping down the sides every now and then, will take anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes. Add a tad more liquids as needed.

Scoop into individual bowl/s, top with fruit, nuts, cocoa nibs or coconut flakes. Enjoy right away.

Serves one generously, with enough to share if you like. :)

Notes

A splash or two of milk or water will help the mixture move a little better when blending. For completely raw, use homemade plant milk, or a splash of water is fine too!

To Freeze: Keep this ice cream in the freezer by storing in an airtight freezer safe container. Freeze for at least six hours or overnight for a hardened ice cream, let thaw 10 min or so before scooping. Double this recipe and freeze for convenience.

Keep those bananas! Instead of throwing out bananas I always freeze them for making smoothies later and this will be a new reason to pull out a frozen banana or two. Doesnā€™t get much simpler that this.

  1. This ice cream is absolutely deeelish! I made it because hubby and I are doing a 10 day raw raw cleanse. I also made some raw walnut brownie crumble and put on top. So simple and easy to make. Freezes well too. Definitely a keeper!

So tasty and easy! My husband and I topped it with peanut butter and LOVED it…thanks for sharing!

  3. I just made this most delicious ice-creamy desert. Like another I had to add about 1 Tablespoon of almond milk to get a nice consistency. I recently upgraded my Bamix and have the SliceSy, so I tried it in that. Perfect…. and better than getting my huge processor out with all the fiddly attachments. I love all your recipes. I have been vegan for a year, and mostly go to your website and bought your e-book too.

  4. I love how simple and fabulous this dessert is.

  5. I tried this, but my ninja couldn’t take the bananas without a little liquid and so I added enough almond milk to make it come together, also added a dash of agave, it was perfect! tasted like a raw/ healthy frosty! Thanks!!

Do you have to use a blender? Would a processor work?

    1. julie@thesimpleveganista says:

Yes, a food processor will work great too! I will add that to the recipe, thank you. Enjoy your ice cream. :)
