Lemon Ginger Tea Ingredients

Made with just a few simple ingredients, power up in the morning and throughout the day with a cup of this immune-boosting and detoxifying lemon ginger tea.

Here is everything you will need, including their health benefits:

  • Lemon: Lemons are a good source of vitamin C, which is one of the most important antioxidants in nature. These powerful antioxidants neutralize free radicals both inside and outside the cell. Free radicals can cause inflammation, and the antioxidants in lemons help reduce inflammation and arthritis symptoms. They also contain flavonoids to help attack and prevent certain cancer cells from growing. Lemons also have antibiotic effects. This yellow oval fruit is full of healing properties and should be enjoyed regularly.
  • GingerGinger, like lemons, also holds anti-inflammatory benefits (great for people with arthritis, like myself). It also eases gas and bloating and is helpful with motion sickness. And when you’re feeling under the weather, ginger helps promote healthy sweating which is a great way to get the toxins out.
  • Turmeric: Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits and antioxidants. It may help reduce symptoms of depression, combat cancer, and aid in preventing diabetes. It’s an all-around amazing spice with a beautiful golden hue.
  • Cayenne: Cayenne is another spice that helps to fight inflammation. It can also help clear congestion as well as act as a natural pain reliever. It can help with weight loss and give your immune system a boost with its high content of beta-carotene. Not only will it add a spicy kick to your food/drinks, it will take care of you on the inside as well!

For every bit of its healing effects, it tastes twice as good!

Yay, Julie — perfection at last. Ive been playing with different combos to upgrade my typical morning hot water and lemon juice for a couple months and never achieved “the one” This is it! Love the flavor!!! New to turmeric and happy to find a good way to incorporate it. I am a big fan of cayenne and all the ingredients you use. Made in my glass infuser tea pot, 27 oz, so now I have enough for three days. Thank you so much for my new daily treat! I subscribed yesterday and spent hours reading your site and saving recipes to my homescreen. I read a lot of vegan and vegetarian blogs and am a discerning user, and yours is the BEST I have read for numerous reasons. You are blessedly articulate, embrace simplicity like I do, and your coverage is comprehensive and useful. Loved the vegan pantry post! Shopping tomorrow to start using the fruits of your labor. Thank you soooo much!

  2. When you store this and have during the week, do you reheat or drink cold? I love this recipe but sometimes am lazy in the morning so I love the idea of making ahead.

    1. Julie | The Simple Veganista says:

Making ahead is a great idea! You can do either with the leftovers, reheat or drink it chilled. Just make sure to give it a good stir before pouring. I’ll have to add a note in the recipe card. Thanks for asking, Steph!

  4. Hai! Can a pregnant woman drink this tea

    1. Julie | The Simple Veganista says:

Great question, Tina! Yes, this is a herbal tea and safe to drink during pregnancy. It’s great for times when you are experiencing nausea, vomiting, or light uterine cramping in early pregnancy. Just don’t overdue it! :)

  6. Is it okay if I use lime instead of lemon? Does it have the same nutritional benefits?

    1. Julie | The Simple Veganista says:

Yes, lime would be great too!

Lovely write up and photos! I make something like this every morning there's nothing like it.
A half to an inch piece of peeled ginger, half a peeled lemon (unpeeled if it's an organic Meyer lemon), a couple dashes of Spicy Sunshine (1 part cayenne pepper and 2 parts turmeric powder), and about a tsp of raw honey or organic maple syrup. I blend it with a cup of coconut water or regular water, strain it into my travel cup (16oz), and then fill with hot water. When I travel I use ginger powder (about a tsp) and just juice the lemon, since I don't carry my blender around with me.

That sounds so good! Thank you for the inspiration!
